Staffing and Supervision
Delaheys is a family run nursing home under the personal supervision and care of the Matron/Registered Manager, Carolyn Wilson RGN, and joint proprietor, Alan Wilson. Our personal involvement ensures the highest standards of nursing care, day-to-day management of the Home and maintenance of its fabric.
Every shift is supervised by an experienced Registered Nurse and the dedicated care staff have achieved NVQs2/3 in Care. In addition, we have our own chefs – with long experience in the preparation of meals for hotels and care homes – and experienced domestics and launderers who ensure the Home’s high standards of cleanliness.
Status
Delaheys is in Band 1 (top band) of the Local Authority’s quality accredited list of nursing homes and the overall CSCI rating for the Home is Excellent (CSCI inspection report 9 May 07). We have also had Investor in People status for several years.
Personal Accommodation
As a resident of Delaheys you would be allocated a bright and spacious single or companion room in accordance with your wishes. All rooms are furnished to a high standard with adequate facilities for clothes and other personal belongings. All are fitted with a Nurse Call facility, Emergency buzzer, TV and telephone points. Companion rooms are provided with a movable screen to aid privacy.
Although a television set is provided in most rooms you may, if you wish, install your own but regulations require that you obtain a TV licence (free if 75 or over) as your own set would not be covered by the Home’s licence.
You can also choose to replace other furnishings normally provided by the Home for your room (such as an easy-chair, chest of drawers, pictures) with your own. We do not provide radios but you may install your own if you wish. The only stipulation we make is that furnishings and equipment supplied by a resident must satisfy our health and safety requirements and be of a size suitable for the room.
Residents are given as much freedom of choice as possible in the times at which they rise in the morning, retire at night and where and when meals are served to them. You will, no doubt, understand that, for the comfort and convenience of all residents but especially for those who require more attention from nursing staff, certain activities have to be timetabled.

Meals
We aim to provide meals that are attractive and nutritious, meet any cultural requirements of residents and which satisfy their dietary needs. Nutritional needs are closely monitored and any problems referred to your GP or dietician. The meals served are: breakfast; dinner; high tea; supper. These are normally taken in the dining room but they may be taken in the privacy of your own room when it is desirable to do so.
Assistance is given by care staff to those who have difficulty in feeding themselves. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are served in the lounges or bedrooms.
Alcohol
Alcoholic drink is provided free for parties and to celebrate other social events. Residents are able to keep some wine, beer or spirits for their own consumption with meals or in their bedrooms but we ask that this matter be discussed with Matron in case there are medical reasons for using these with caution. |
